About Brinkman & Associates
Founded in 1970, the company began with Dirk Brinkman and some adventurous hippy friends undertaking a 96,000 tree planting in the British Columbia wilderness. It has steadily grown, continually adding services and geographic scope so that now we operate from the West Coast to Ontario, some parts of the USA, Central America and other countries around the world. Although our roots are in reforestation, the company has grown into a broader forestry services management company.
Brinkman has retained its ecological sensitivity culture and reputation as a great place to work. We carry forward the passion for protecting and restoring the important contribution forests make to our ecological, economic and social sustenance.
Brinkman employs over 1000 full time and seasonal staff, plants or tends over 30,000 hectares per year, and manages over 1 million hectares of forest land for sustainable timber supply, carbon sequestration, and other ecosystem values. In total, we have planted over 900 million trees.
Dirk Brinkman, company founder and CEO, has been a driving force in the development of Canada's reforestation industry, and continues to participate in steering committees and roundtables addressing provincial, national and international forest policy and resource issues.
International
Internationally, there are two divisions and a partnership:
BARCA, S.A. (Brinkman y Asociados Reforestadores de Centro America, S.A.) provides management to high value tropical hardwood plantations since 1995. Its plantations are acknowledged to be some of the best in the world. Through its operations in Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras, BARCA manages approximately $70 million in private forest investments.
Brinkman Forest Restoration Ltd. was formed in 2006 to provide large scale forest restoration on deforested or degraded forest land, primarily in tropical areas. Brinkman Forest Restoration works with and links together private landowners, governments, forest investment firms, ecologically focused investors and NGOs to create innovative investment opportunities in afforestation, reforestation and avoided deforestation. We work on a co-development or contract basis, worldwide.
The Earth Partners was formed in 2008 when we joined forces with wetlands and grassland ecosystem restoration specialist Applied Ecological Services from the USA to undertake large scale, multidisciplinary ecosystem restoration projects around the world.
Brinkman's vision is to be known as the best in forest ecosystem renewal, worldwide.
In Canada / US there are three main divisions:
The Forestry Services Division, which undertakes comprehensive silviculture contracting services, REDD and A/R forest carbon projects, and bioproducts and biomass fuels projects.
The Forest Management Division (Brinkman Forest Ltd) serves First Nations clients by providing comprehensive resource management services with a focus on sustainable forest management for both timber and non-timber forest products.
The Urban Restoration Division provides specialized services which use native species and recreates local ecosystem relationships primarily in urban or other areas disturbed by intensive human intervention.
