Brinkman has a specialized consulting team that provides services to domestic and international clients. It also provides these services to our international divisions (BFR and BARCA) and to “The Earth Partners”.  Our strength comes from having 35 years of operational experience, meaning that our assessments, project designs and products are grounded with the practical reality of what works in the real world.

Service areas include:

Carbon quantification and methodology development.

Brinkman has a specialized team of forest and soil carbon quantification specialists that are very active in the developing field of carbon project development and accounting for land based projects. Experience includes:

  • Applying REDD carbon accounting for Ecologic Development fund on the award winning Bosques Pico Bonito A/R and REDD project in Honduras.
  • Consulting to the UN BioCarbon Fund on REDD carbon accounting.
  • Consulting to conservation organizations in USA and Canada on A/R and REDD projects and methodologies.
  • Development of four forest carbon sequestration plantation demonstration projects in BC under a federal pilot program.
  • Federal government contract to identify over 2000 private properties in BC that could qualify for “Afforestation”.
  • Development of the first comprehensive soil carbon methodology for the Voluntary Carbon Standard.

Forest license acquisitions for First Nations communities

We work with First Nations communities in BC to assess the viability and valuation for communities to acquire forest license tenures in their traditional territories. Projects have ranged from silviculture liability assessment to comprehensive due diligence, valuation and business plan development. Also see our forest management page.

Development of high plantations for timber and carbon sequestration.

Brinkman’s brings it deep silvicultural understanding to the development of plantations for timber supply and carbon sequestration. Examples include:

  • Development of a management plan for the restoration of 100,000 hectares of damaged and underperforming plantations in Indonesia.
  • Development of four forest plantation carbon sequestration demonstration projects in BC.

BioProducts and Bioenergy alternative uses for forest harvest waste, residuals or thinnings.

We work with forestland owners to assess and plan bioproduct and bioenergy projects that compliment current forest management operations. Experience includes:

  • Feasibility study for 200,000 tonne per year wood pellet facility for a forest license with low marketability for pulpwood grades of timber that would otherwise go to waste.
  • Feasibility study for Bio-Oil plant for conversion of beetle killed wood in BC.
  • Bioenergy ultilization study for forest thinnings removed from over-dense forests in urban interface areas and in rangeland restoration.
