Brinkman’s first major project with the Gitanyow was a Direct Award Contract to perform clearing and access work on approximately 40km of BC Hydro’s Northwest Transmission Line. This was done through the Lax Wii Yip / Brinkman Joint Venture, a joint venture consisting of Lax Wii Yip Resource Management Inc., a company owned by the Hereditary Chiefs, and Brinkman Forest Ltd. The scope of this work included clearing for the right-of-way and roads, drilling and blasting, road construction, installation of major structures such as bridges and large culverts, as well as first aid and environmental monitoring. The project was a major success, being both profitable and providing employment for local community members. Brinkman Forest Ltd. and Gitanyow are currently in the process of negotiating additional joint venture agreements to capture value from the range of resource projects that are proposed for their traditional territory.
