Brinkman has had a relationship with the Gitxsan for a number of years, leading back to their acquisition of their forest license. Brinkman now works very closely with the Gitxsan Development Corporation (GDC), an entity formed by the Hereditary Chiefs of the Gitxsan. Brinkman’s first major project with GDC was a Direct Award Contract to perform clearing and access work on approximately 40km of BC Hydro’s Northwest Transmission Line. This was done through the Gitxsan Northwest Transmission Line Joint Venture, a partnership consisting of GDC and Brinkman. The scope of this work included clearing for the right-of-way and roads, drilling and blasting, road construction, installation of major structures such as bridges and large culverts, as well as first aid, environmental monitoring and worker accommodations.
Recently Brinkman and GDC formed the Lax Yip Forestry Limited Partnership. Through this LP, Brinkman is managing Gitxsan Forests Inc.’s 387,879 m3 forest license in the Kispiox TSA and assisting with the development of related opportunities such as sawmilling and bioenergy. We believe this is an excellent opportunity and we are excited about rejuvenating forestry in the region.
